Fibre Bonded Carpet:

It is a very hard wearing and durable product which is ideally suited to School Classrooms and Corridors. Most fibre bonded carpets are Anti-Static and therefore are popular in Computor areas.

Fibre bonded carpets are manufactured in many colours and can have a cord, flat or velour appearance. Most are available in sheet or tile form.

The leading manufacturers of fibre bonded carpet include Burmatex, Heckmondwike FB and Rawson.

Impervious / Gel backed Carpet:

These carpets are normally used where clean ability is an important factor, such as Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Nursery areas and Staffrooms. The backing of the carpets offers varying degrees of impermability. This allows spillages to be cleaned and removed quickly and effectively. These carpets can be shampooed and wet methods used for regular maintenance.

Impervious backed carpets are manufactured with loop or cut pile surfaces and are available as plain, mottled or patterned. The leading impervious carpet is Flotex. This product is completely waterproof, anti-static and possibly one of the easiest textile floorcoverings to maintain. Other impervious / gel backed carpets are available from manufacturers such as Gradus, Joseph Hamilton & Seaton etc.

Carpet Tiles:

This product ranges from fibre bonded all the way through to a cut pile which gives the appearance of a broadloom carpet if required. Carpet tiles are available to meet all budgets and installed correctly, they are a very effective way of carpeting areas in Schools, Offices, Corridors and Public Areas. Installing carpet tiles can be less disruptive in busy offices and can eliminate the “shutdown” of areas. On corridors tiles can be more cost effective than sheet products which could prove wasteful. Damaged areas of carpet tiles can be replaced easily, and full recovers avoided.

Leading manufacturers of carpet tiles include Burmatex, Heuga, Paragon, Gradus and Flotex.

Contract Vinyl:

These products are available in sheet and tile form. When laid in sheet form and thermowelded on site it becomes completely impervious to moisture, making it ideal in areas where soiling / spillage is likely such as Dining Rooms, Classrooms, Hairdressers and Corridors. Available in a wide range of colours and designs including wood effect.

Leading manufactures include Polyflor, Karndean, Amtico, Tarkett and Gerflor.

Linoleum:

Lino is manufactured from Linseed oil, Rosin, Wood Flour, Limestone and Colour Pigments and backed with Jute. This produces a very durable floorcovering which is ideal for classrooms, corridors and canteens. It is available in a wide range of colours and the leading brand name in the UK is Marmoleum by Forbo-Nairn Ltd.

Slip Resistant Vinyl:

These products come in sheet only and are made from a pvc base with aggregate scattered throughout them, this gives grip when there is water present. The products go from a standard 2mm gauge up to 4mm gauge depending on the requirements of the area. This type of product can be coved up the wall 150mm to give a tanked system and to facilitate cleaning.

Typically used in Toilets, School Wet Areas, Science labs, Commercial Kitchens and many other areas.

The leading manufacturers include Altro, Polyflor Polysafe, Gerflor Tarasafe , Marley and Tarkett.

Entrance Matting:

These products can vary a lot in cost depending on where and how the mat is to be used. Some mats scrape off dirt, whilst others dry moisture. Choosing the correct entrance matting is critical to ensure that it is effective. The size of the area laid in matting is also important – many people do not stop to wipe their feet and therefore the mat area must be adequate.

Effective Matting can reduce maintenance costs and protect the appearance of the floorcoverings within the building.

Entrance matting is available ribbed or to look like a carpet and also it can incorporate a metal finish for extra durability.

Leading brands include Coral by Tufton Ltd, Heckmondwike Hippo, Rawson Trackmaster, Nuway etc.

Stair Nosings:

Nosings are the edge of the step protectors, which are drilled and plugged and bonded to the step edge. They help to give a contrast edge to the step to meet DDA directives and prevents the edge of the flooring covering wearing out. They should be fitted to all step front edges on public staircases in Schools, Offices, Shops etc.

They are manufactured in aluminium or uPVC and coloured inserts allow then to be contrasted to the carpet or vinyl to ensure they are highly visible.

Leading brands include Gradus and Quantum.
